International Pyrotechnics Society
Application for Membership

History and Objectives

The objectives of The International Pyrotechnics Society are:

  1. To promote and facilitate the exchange of information concerning the science and technology of energetic materials, including propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics, among all interested persons.
  2. To create and maintain information resources which can expedite and enhance a member's search for information regarding the science and technology of energetic materials as well as information on devices and applications which utilize energetic materials.
  3. To sponsor or sanction symposia on topics in the field of energetic materials research, development, technology, and applications at such intervals as may be appropriate to further its first purpose as stated above.
  4. To encourage research and education in the science and technology of energetic materials.

Two ways that the Society meets these objectives are: (i) by sponsoring the International Pyrotechnic Seminars series and (ii) by the Society's affiliation with the journal Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics.

Even though the Society was officially formed in 1980, its history began in a substantive way when the First International Pyrotechnics Seminar was held at Estes Park, Colorado, USA in August 1968. The seminars, held in even-numbered years in the United States, have grown from approximately 50 attendees representing three countries in 1968, to over 175 attendees from 20 countries at the 27th Seminar in 2000. Society sponsored International Pyrotechnic Seminars also have been held in Karlsruhe, Federal Republic of Germany; Juan les Pins, France; Jersey, United Kingdom; Jönköping, Sweden; Beijing, China; Christchurch, New Zealand; Moscow, Russia; Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan; Brest, France; and, Nanjiing, China.

Membership

Membership is open to all persons of good character who can demonstrate a bonafide interest in pyrotechnics, defined in the broad sense to include all exothermic energetic materials, whether for commercial or military applications.

Subscription to Journal

Society members are entitled to a subscription to the Society's offical journal Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics at approximately 50 percent of the regular and annual price. Please indicate that you are a Society member in your subscription request.
